FAQ

What is Micropigmentation/Permanent Makeup?

This is the process of implanting pigment into the skin using a machine or manual hand tool to create long lasting enhancement to your brows.

It can also be used to replicate realistic looking eyebrows for those who have lost their real hair due to over-plucking, disease, or genetic disorder such as alopecia or chemotherapy.

How long will my brows last?

Typically your brows should last anywhere between 1-3 years before you will need a refresher / color boost appointment.

However there are some key factors that play a huge role in how long your brows will last, this includes the following in no particular order;

1. Following the proper prep and aftercare giving to you by your service provider. This is a non-negotiable! How good your brows will come out is 60% Artist’s talent and 40% Client’s ability to properly follow both prep and aftercare.

2. Protecting your brows from the sun! Protecting your brows from the sun will keep your color looking fresh and prevent them from prematurely fading out. Wearing an SPF on your brows everyday, as well as wearing a hat or sunglasses when out in the sun for long periods of time will make a huge difference in how long they will last you. This goes for protecting them in tanning beds as well.

3. A client’s skin type, for example a client with more oily skin may find their brows don’t last as long as a client with normal to dry skin.

4. Skincare routine; now don’t get me wrong we love a good retinol in our skincare girlfriend! But avoiding anti-aging or glycolic acid products directly on your brows is going to make a huge difference! Similar to the sun it will just prematurely fade them out. My rule of thumb is to apply the product one or two fingers above your brows on your forehead.

5. Certain auto-immune disorders, medical conditions, and medications can play a role in prematurely fading your brows out. In some cases your body can reject the pigment causing the brows to fade out. Which is why it is so important to disclose any medical information when asked on the forms you are sent out beforehand.

Regardless of the information above it is important to remember that the pigment in your brows is meant to fade over time and is perfectly normal.

Who may NOT be a good candidate for PMU Brows?

If client is currently pregnant. Has cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. Are on acutane or Steroid Medication and Prednisone (must be off for at least 2 months). Have an open wound present at site of treatment. Have skin that is extremely thin. Have a bacterial or viral infection. Have a history of keloid hypertrophic scarring.

What type of brow do you need naturally for PMU Brows?

Any type of brow! Whether you naturally have thick brows and want to just perfect them or you have sparse to no brows at all. All types make great candidates for PMU brows!

Will I still need to get my brows waxed?

Some people will yes! Getting Microblading done does not stop your natural brow hairs from growing in. Depending on your hair growth in your brow area you may still want to come get your brows waxed.

Can I still do other brow services over my Microblading?

Absolutely! Once your brows are fully healed you are safe to tint, dye, henna, or laminate your brows if you would like to!

Will it hurt?

For most people no it will not hurt!

The brow area is numbed using an anesthetic cream. At the most you may feel a light sensation of scratching or pressure in the beginning. Then we apply another numbing solution after the first pass, which leaves your brow area completely numb for the rest of the treatment. You shouldn’t feel a thing but maybe a light pressure.

Try to avoid booking your treatment right around or during your period as it can be more uncomfortable since your skin will naturally be more sensitive during this time

Do I need to book a touchup?

YES SIS! Micropigmentation for brows is a required 2 session appointment to get full + lasting results that you desire for your brows.

The touchup allows us to assess your healed brows after the first appointment; as typically your brows will not heal "perfectly" the first session, spots not holding pigment is perfectly normal.

At the touchup we look at - how the color healed + if you'd like to go darker, your skins retention to pigment and style/technique of brows we do, if your desired shape is good or if you would like fuller brows, + make an necessary adjustments.

How do you choose a brow shape?

After consulting with my client the day of the appointment I do what's called Brow Mapping to which I take into consideration my client's personal brow goals we just went over, their natural brow, and their facial features to map out essentially the 'perfect brow' for their face!

I explain brow mapping to be looked at as an outline or blue print of the shape I'll be doing for your brows. I let my client look over the mapping before we do anything permanent, so they can make any adjustments if needed/wanted and so they always have the final ok before we go into the service.

Can I book with previously done work by another artist?

We request anyone with previously done Micropigmentation work on their brows by another artist to email a clear unfiltered picture of their brows to Tia at info@Browstoat.com

The pigment needs to be faded out significantly before they can be redone again to have the best possible outcome.

Appointments must then be booked as either. NEW client refresher appointment unless faded out enough to be considered by Tia as a new client first time appointment.

Sun Burnt Skin

If we go through with the service while the skin near your brows is sun burnt your skin will naturally exfoliate from the sun damage and possibly take pigment with it - which ruins the desired results.

Clients arriving to their appointments with sunburned skin may result in cancellation on the appointment and the client will be responsible for foreiting their deposit and having to book a new appointment with a new deposit down. Unless of course clients cancel within our cancellation policy period. Just make sure to use SPF on your face 14- 30 days leading up to your appointment! Planning accordingly is key

Should I not get my brows done in the summer?

You absolutely still can! When we say no direct sun exposure 14-30 days prior and after we mean just don't go out and bake in the sun with no protection for your brows! Wear an SPF, sunglasses, a hat, etc. if you'll be out in the sun and you'll be fine!

Can I get my brows done while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Unfortunately we can not work on a client who is pregnant or breastfeeding due to unknown complications and risks. We recommend once a client has given birth or stopped breastfeeding to wait an additional 3-4 months to give your hormones time to rebalance so you are able to have the best results possible.

How do you choose a color?

My goal is always for people to look at your brows and not even realize you got your brows essentially "tattooed" on, I want people to look at your brows and think they are YOURS!

My rule of thumb is I always mimic the natural color of your brow hair, even doing a shade lighter then I originally think the first session because we can always go darker at the touchup!

Of course clients with super light hair or clients who adamantly tint their natural brow hairs darker we will talk a goal color they have in mind if it is different from their natural color!

Consultations

We do not typically offer nor require a consultation appointment before your session. At your initial appointment and in-depth consultation will be done day of where we will discuss your brow goals, expectations, shape, style, technique, and color. We brow map the shape for your brows and come to an agreement before doing anything permanent.

We service clients with little to no natural brow hair as well as clients with naturaly stunning shaped brows, whether or not you "need" this service is completely a matter of opinion and personal choice from the client.

We do offer text or phone calls to go over and answer any questions the client may have beforehand to help ease their nerves.

If you are unsure we suggest doing a bit more research on the Permanent Makeup process as well as taking a look on our Social Media Account to review our work.

For Client's who want to dip their toes into the idea of enhancing their brows I would suggest booking first a Brow Shape + Dye. This will leave you with a temporary enhancement to your brows, darkening your brow hairs for up to 6-8 weeks and staining the skin around for about 7-14 days. This gives the client the opportunity to get used to the idea of waking up with a new shape to their brows temporarily.
